iRacing UI black/white screen, frozen UI, or stale Electron cache

A blank or frozen iRacing UI can be caused by damaged UI state. Confirm an actual UI rendering problem before clearing the Electron cache.

Checks and expected results

Before you repair it

  • Check whether the UI itself is blank, frozen, or unable to render, rather than a simulator session crashing after launch.
  • Record the time and look for matching UI failure evidence. The logger name iracing-electron or a connection-reset message alone is insufficient.
  • Close the UI and let any updater finish; preserve relevant UI data before clearing %APPDATA%\iracing-electron.

How to confirm the result

Relaunch the UI and retry the screen that failed. If it renders normally, test launching a session separately; a remaining simulator crash needs its own diagnosis.

Repair limits and when to stop

A cache reset may rebuild UI state, but it does not repair the graphics driver, Windows, or car files. Do not repeat it solely because the launcher reports ECONNRESET after a simulator crash.

How PitMedic recognizes it

UI process remains alive but fails to render/respond; logs point to Electron/UI state rather than simulator crash.

Signals PitMedic may recognize

  • white screen
  • black screen
  • UI cache

Built-in response

Back up metadata if useful, close the UI, clear %APPDATA%\iracing-electron, then relaunch.

A launcher connection reset is not a cache diagnosis

Verified automated regression test · 2026-09-28

Test setup

Synthetic iRacing evidence used the iracing-electron logger with ECONNRESET, both alone and following an application fault.

Observed result

The connection-reset-only case produced no repair. With an application fault, it retained the approval-gated Windows-integrity plan instead of substituting a UI-cache reset. Saved and reconstructed plans agreed.

What this establishes

This verifies repair selection, not that Windows was corrupt or that running a repair would solve a real crash.
